Our Mission Statement and Group Objectives

Our Common goal: interaction and collaboration to enhance the creative endeavor of songwriting

Our 5 common interests:  meeting with other songwriters, sharing original songs with each other, collaboration, constructive feedback and advice, learning about songwriting and related topics.

Our members include:  songwriters of all levels and genres, musicians and singers who want to perform original music, recording and production technicians, music business professionals.

 

Sponsors

·      We want sponsors to help us publicise our group, bring in new members, provide prizes for contests, team up for events to increase and diversify attendance, provide a spotlight for our best performers

·      Ideas for sponsors includes:  Microbreweries, restaurants, bars, music venues/open mic nights, music equipment stores, CD stores, recording studios, music magazines, Radio Stations, and more

 

SD Songwriter MeetUp Song Challenge:

·      Rule #1, keep it fun, this is not the Grammys!

Provides a way for interested members to prepare, practice, and get accustomed to the challenges (harsh realities)  of the many professional song contests

·      Gives members a “reality check”, thicken up your thin skin!

·      Motivates members to write and perform more often and and improve skills

·      Allows the MeetUp to screen for best/most popular performances for upcoming showcase gigs, featured songs on our new web site

·      Encourages and facilitates collaboration

·      Contests are monthly.  To enter a song you must be a member of the SD Songwriter MeetUp, attend a meeting and perform the song

·      Collbaboration is the #1 reason people join the SD Songwriters MeetUp

·      Those who have done it have a lot of fun, and have made some good music.

·      Our goal is to make it easier for people to collaborate by providing a virtual option for including your performance in a musical track, and by offering free recording service by a group of our members with good recording gear.

·      Each meeting we will feature a different member’s song for collaboration, with a one month timeline to finish it.   The song will be selected by the MeetUp Organizers, a member will volunteer to record it, the initial song writer will post his or her “song vision” and chords and lyrics finished so far.

·      We will more actively recruit members to sign up on our Collaboration List, an use it to work together.

  

New Activities

·      A quarterly Songwriter Showcase at a music venue, where the finalists in the monthly contests are highlighted, and other members get to play too.

·      Put together a SD Songwriters Volunteer House Band, members who are good musicians and good at reading charts can back up members on recordings and at the Showcase events.
